Amman: Members of Jordan’s Lower House condemned a “cowardly” terror plot aimed at national security and stressed that the kingdom’s stability cannot be compromised.
In a session held in Amman on April 21, 2025, chaired by Speaker Ahmad Safadi and attended by government ministers, MPs spoke out against any attempt to undermine public order or exploit the Palestinian cause for violent ends, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
They outlined how the General Intelligence Department (GID) uncovered the conspiracy after years of surveillance dating back to 2021, arresting 16 suspects linked to an unlicensed political organisation dissolved under Jordanian law. Investigators found covert workshops in Amman and Zarqa where rockets, drones, TNT, C4, and Semtex-H were being assembled and stored. One suspect even hid a Katyusha rocket in a residential area, Petra reported.
Lawmakers vowed zero tolerance for those who “tamper with our national security” and reaffirmed loyalty to the Hashemite leadership, invoking the sacrifices of fallen soldiers and the unity woven by Jordan’s constitutional, Arab, Islamic, and moral heritage. Video excerpts of King Abdullah’s speeches were shown to highlight the dangers of taking orders from abroad and to honor the work of Jordan’s armed forces and intelligence agencies.
They warned against the spread of extremist ideologies and populist tactics designed to stir unrest, calling for strict enforcement of the Political Parties Law, the Anti‑Terrorism Law, and Article 127 of the Constitution, which reserves armed force to state institutions. By demanding full disclosure of any foreign affiliations and pledging that party funding remain free of external influence, MPs underlined why the recent arrests and security measures were necessary to protect Jordan’s unity and sovereignty.
